Rebirth [#271224]

And just like that, the painting is now working again. The destruction led to a sense of freedom, it opened up several new paths that were not previously viable, visible or accessible and now, as if by magic (and I reckon there is a bit of magic in there truthfully), the painting is WORKING. Totally different painting than it was yesterday, mind but working all the same. The whole meaning, energy of the piece has fundamentally changed.

It In many ways a process that does not contain a certain degree of destruction is much more artificial , much less organic, than one that does. Nature is full of destruction. Think wild fires, phoenixes rising from the ashes, the metaphorical self-destruction we must commit in order to grow as people. From smouldering soot good things emerge.

It was Bukowski that said every day he was re-born, or at least felt that way, because each night he would self-destruct with an oral alcohol infusion. I don't think it necessary to get twatted every night in order to be reborn, but I appreciate the sentiment. Many parts of the old me have had to be cleaved, chipped off in order for me to grow. I guess that's why people avoid growth in some ways: it's scary. The version of you that you thought was really "you" turns out to be a fleshy, stepping stone on the way to your final form. Michaelangelo didn't re-carve David from, he released him and set him free. A bit like us, really. Stuck in our old, stony ways until a great mind comes along and helps us spread our wings.

It's misty as owt outside today. I wiped the window in my studio and still couldn't see a thing. Mysterious mist.
